Programme profile
Music is a typical university Arts subject in that it explores our cultural heritage and cultivates skills in finding and evaluating information, communicating ideas and making sound judgments. It also entails much more than that: it increases our understanding of a powerful wordless language; it develops our mental and physical stamina; it improves our co-ordination and dexterity; it makes us more perceptive; and it teaches us to cooperate reliably and sensitively with others.
In the UCC School of Music, both traditional and classical instruments are available to students. These include concert and practice pianos, harpsichords, a pipe organ, a concert harp, a carillon practice console and Irish traditional and non-Western instruments including ewe dance drums and a gamelan orchestra.
Frequent concerts involving visiting and resident performers and students, take place. The members of the RTE Vanbrugh Quartet are artists-in-residence to the University. They perform frequently on campus and teach in the UCC School of Music.

Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. Others must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects above must include:English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
